Country economies have spent a lot of time optimizing business for current conditions and expected slight variations but have been exposed as brittle and unprepared for material, even if not seismic, shifts. Healthcare in the US is a good example of this problem. We spend so much time trimming, optimizing, ringing efficiencies out of everything that we’ve been caught flat-footed by the pandemic even though we have an outstanding healthcare system.
