Football is back.
The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are set to host their division rival Dallas Cowboys tonight, and college football is also back with championship contenders looking at their most expensive rosters ever.
Well joining me to break down the action.
The country is Rick Harrow, CEO of Horror Sports Ventures.
So a lot going on.
So let's start with the pros.
The NFL season kicking off tonight with the league claiming Nielsen ratings under accounts millions of viewers.
So are you excited for the NFL's return, Rick?
Who wouldn't be yet to be dead, not to be excited.
And by the way, this is the time where the NFL really survives and thrives. $25 billion annual revenue, the dreaded cowboys visiting the Eagles, and then, you know, the NFL said no, we're giving Friday nights to high schools.
No, they're not unless high school football is played in Brazil.
That's where where the game is tomorrow night, the Chargers and the Chiefs.
Sunday, the normal.
Significant ratings opening day across the board and then the Vikings and the Bears.
So a full plate of NFL football, the ratings will be off the charts.
The idea of a rumored sale of a piece of the Giants for $10 billion prorated is possible, and now we understand that you don't even talk to anybody around the NFL unless you sniff a $10 to $15 billion purchase price.
It's a wonderful country.
Yeah, and college football is also back teams paying the price for NIL and #1 ranked Ohio State reportedly investing $35 million in its roster.
So take us through this.
Yeah, well, look, it was at a time years ago that the athletes couldn't be paid.
Then the president of the NCA said, yeah, let's do it, but I'll get back to you with details in the next couple of years.
Well, crickets, they forgot to send that memo.
Then we had the House versus NCA settlement which put a $20 million floor on and you get to prepay some of the settlement fees.
That's why a lot of these teams are now 25 to $30 million.
You look at the top 10 and you realize they're trending to $30 to $40 million.
The prediction is that by the time all All of these NIL numbers get mature $40 to $50 million invested.
Used to be booster could sign a check under the table, and that's the way they're paid today.
Not only is it over the table, but it dominates the table, and you have some of these quarterbacks Carson Beckett, Miami, and others that are willing their teams into the top 10.
By the way, I'm here in Florida.
4 of the teams may sniff a spot at the playoffs.
It's a beautiful country, especially here in the Sunshine State.
Yeah, and Rick, I thought I overheard you talking about honey Deucs, so I do want to ask you about the US Open.
A lot of drama this year, so I know you were also just there, and as you mentioned, the Honeydeuces, the cocktails as well as the boo boos are trying to steal the show.
So what are your thoughts on the many antics that have been taking place under the lights in Queens?
Antics, by the way, this is pretty heavy, and when you think about it, people walk around, especially 9 or 10 at night, stacking up hundreds of these.
And of course the company that makes honey juices are wonderful because they used to be maybe $13 a shot, $23.
It's New York prices, but that's outrageous.
NBC reported about 550,000 of them sold at last year's event, so you're making basically 13 to 14. million dollars.
Yeah, we see what it looks like.
I'm going to have a honey juice party at the house on Sunday equivalent to the NFL opener as well.
I ain't charging $23.
I'm going to charge about $30 to see if I lose any friends.
At the end of the day, the antics are important.
The open is important.
800,000 people, economic impact well over a billion dollars, the largest spectator sport event in New York, and it only gets bigger.
Well, Rick, have a wonderful party this weekend with your honey deuces, and I'm glad you're not charging over 20 bucks a pop for that.
Yeah, I can.
I'll talk to you later.
Bye.
But
